It would be easy to describe The Stone Soup Company as a soup and sandwich place in an urban environment, but that would be one of the biggest understatements in Tampa. The Stone Soup Company is the brainchild of proprietor, visionary and chef Ilya Goldberg who started it as just a place to buy a cup of soup. But after a week in business, the menu quickly evolved into sandwiches, salads, gourmet dinner selections, late night appetizers, and gelato.
However, the primary focus at The Stone Soup Company is on fresh, healthier foods. Ilya believes the portions in most places are out of control and so are the calorie counts, so he focuses on air-cooking, locally-based produce, sorbet gelatos, and veggie based soups. That’s not to say they don’t have a three-cheese broccoli soup that you really don’t want to discuss with your trainer, but for the most part, this place is all about making you feel good.
Plus, it’s fun to hang out at, and there are games such as dominoes, checkers, and puzzles for families to play and spend time together with. There’s a TV on the wall but it’s never been hooked up, as this place is fairly low-tech and a throwback to the way things used to be. And they do have Wi-Fi, but Ilya is keen on keeping The Stone Soup Company a hub of conversation and people watching, not a laptop bar.
